React Vs Angular in SPA: What they are, differences and the end of debate

As soon as you decide upon being SPA, the Single Page Application, the question pops up which Library. Here, I discuss between what I have learnt so far in this area,as a developer, tester and UX designer.


Let's start with a basic introduction. Angular is a TypeScript-based Javascript framework, developed and maintained by Google. Angular 1 released in 2010 is now called AngularJS. Angular 2 and above release after 2016 is simply called Angular. The latest version is Angular 7. It is being used by Google, Wix, weather.com, healthcare.gov and Forbes etc. React is described as “a JavaScript library for building user interfaces”. Released in March 2013, developed and is maintained by Facebook.
Facebook uses React components on several pages. It is said that React is used far more at Facebook than Angular is at Google. Anyways, React has also a good range of supporters cum users likeReact
Airbnb, Uber, Netflix, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, Udemy, Wix, Paypal, Imgur, Feedly, Stripe, Tumblr, Walmart etc. Additionally, Facebook is working on the release of React Fiber. Rendering is supposed to be much faster as a result.


The frameworks are component-based. A component gets an input, and after some internal behavior / computing, it returns a rendered UI template as output. Much appears like an MVC design pattern. The defined components should be easy to reuse on the webpage or within other components.


The differences start from the fact React focuses on the use of Javascript ES5 or ES6. Angular relies on TypeScript. Because of this Angular has more consistency. Also, Angular has hence, concepts like decorators and static types. Static types are useful for code intelligence tools, like automatic refactoring, jump to definitions, etc. However there is catch also that TypeScript may disappear over time. Additionally, TypeScript adds a lot of learning overhead to projects. And, for the type checking enthusiasts, there is something called Flow to enable type-checking within React. It’s a static type-checker developed by Facebook for JavaScript.


Then, lets remember that Angular is a full framework with all the tooling and best practices designed on top of it. React on the other hand is just a small view library that you
would need while making an app. React uses abstractions over simple Javascript. But learning Angular is bit time consuming as you should know everything else associated to it eg typescript, MVC. Plus Angular library in itself is huge. The Angular templates are enhanced HTML with special Angular language (Things like ngIf or ngFor). While React requires knowledge of JavaScript, Angular forces you to learn Angular-specific syntax.


On the Scalability issue, Angular is good at this time, 2018. However React is going to comeup with more in future. However, as of now Angular is easy to scale thanks to its design as well as a powerful CLI. React also claims to be good and testable and scalable. So, it won't be a bad idea to choose React.


Coming back to the programming style, I should assert here that Angular includes dependency injection, a pattern in which one object supplies the dependencies (a service) to another object (a client). This leads to more flexibility and cleaner code. Plus, the code becomes more testable. Angular's model-view-controller pattern (MVC) splits a project into three components: model, view and controller. Angular as an MVC-framework has MVC out of the box. React only has the V i.e View. You need to solve the M and C on your own.


But, there also lies a problem with Angular. This is already discussed above but the following idea will give you a new perspective as well. We’re now moving more towards microservices and microapps. React gives you more control to size an application by selecting only the things which are really necessary. They offer more flexibility to shift from an SPA to microservices using parts of a former application. Angular is too bloated to be used for microservices.


And, last but not the least, let me take you to a short discussion around native Apps creation. React with react native, react sketchapp and next.js, it is the best choice. Angular comes with ionic 2 and nativescript, but neither of those mobile frameworks allow angular to reach the performance of react native. React and Angular both support native development. Angular has NativeScript (backed by Telerik) for native apps and Ionic Framework for hybrid apps. With React, you can check out react-native-renderer to build cross-plattform iOS and Android apps, or react-native for native apps. A lot of apps (including Facebook; check the Showcase for more) are built with react-native.


Lets remember that definitely React has been the most popular when it comes to English frontend and full stack communities in 2016. It is also becoming a good choice for native JavaScript mobile and even desktop apps. React is fairly simple to understand. Angular is not so simple and code setup takes time. Also, Angular is way bigger, causing longer load times and performance issues on mobiles.


So, what I conclude that you should use Angular if you work at Google, if you love TypeScript, if you love object-orientated-programming (OOP), or if you work in a large team where there are guides, collaborators, scalability issues. You should use React if you work at Facebook, if you like flexibility, if you love big ecosystems and you like choosing among dozens of packages, or if you love JS & the “everything-is-Javascript-approach”.

Indian Court threatens to ban facebook, Google etc

Now it was the turn for Web majors like Google, Facebook, Youtube, Yahoo, Microsoft, and in total about 21 companies.

Indian court acting on plea of a journalist has warned these companies to remove offensive and objectionable contents.

The story started with a complaint filed in a lower court by Vinay Rai. He is a journalist who alleged that these companies were publishing ghastly material.
Just a few days back, India's minister of communications and information technology, Kapil Sibal provided various examples of "unacceptable" content. To prove his theory he manifested fake naked pictures of Indian political leaders and also a few of religiously sensitive images present over the web servers of these companies, and hence available to the people around the globe.
Justice Suresh Kait has warned these companies that “like China, we will block all such websites”. Obviously websites containing objectionable material, unless they agree to introduce new measures.

Web business tycoons were told to appear before the Delhi court on 13th March. They have to face criminal charges for allegedly hosting offensive and objectionable material on their websites. Ministry of external affairs has been given the responsibility of serving the summons to the companies.
However, I believe that this cannot happen so swiftly. Enormous restructuring is needed, and a lot of Software Engineering and testing has to be done; That too only for a reduction, not removal!
Even the BBC report says -

assuming there are over 100 million Internet users in the India, most Internet-based companies say such broad action is impossible.

Truly said, but forgot to add that here we are talking globally. So the number crosses 500 million mark!!

Court accuses Google, Facebook etc for 'Objectionable and Offensive' contents. Problems in Internet censorship, reality, solutions and viablity.

This blog post comes after the news that Indian court issues summons to Google, Facebook, Microsoft for 'objectionable content'.
You must have heard -

Social networking websites warned to remove offensive contents, and

Internet censorship is a debate and technical problems are there, etc.

There are some authorities across the globe and now even Indian court that wants these (and 21 others) Internet companies to develop a (? Big question mark!!) mechanism to keep a check and remove from their Web pages those materials which are deemed 'offensive and objectionable'.

Someone please tell me with such a diverse cultural, regional, religional,politico,socio,economical richness of India, who can find what is objectionable and what is not. And then, at last, thanks to various civic bodies too, which may find anything objectionable even if it is passed by legislation, law, censor boards, and religious authorities. Let’s cut our talks and be focused towards the technical news and aspects.

A Delhi court sent a summons to the headquarters of foreign Internet companies including Google, Facebook, Microsoft, and Yahoo on Friday, in a private case against objectionable content online. It started with some RTI Activists who found religious content on the sites that he considered offensive, and filed a complaint with a Delhi court, prompting Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Sudesh Kumar to issue notices to 21 Internet sites in December. Henceforth, The magistrate has asked the foreign entities and Indian Internet companies mentioned in the complaint to appear before the court on March 13.

In addition, India's Information Technology Act requires intermediaries like Internet service providers to remove content that is found objectionable within a period of 36 hours of being notified of the content.

It has been warned that "Like China, we will block all such web sites,". This was said by High Court Judge Suresh Kait said.

News complete. And now the technical aspects.

With more than billions of Internet users let’s see what are problems:

1. Billions of Internet users around the globe
2. Thousands of cultural diversities across the globe
3. Millions of line posted every hour over the internet
4. Approximately 11 hours video upload every third minute across the globe
5. Tweets, status updates, messages, forwarding, comes in a real time environment. So who will keep track of these things
6. What is objectionable may not be objectionable for other and vice-versa
7. Age old problems like “Adult content removal” is still not successful, who the hell can develop an “Offensive content removal” system. Hat’s off to law making people. They think programming just like passing a bill in legislature, or just finding a mistake in law that could convict an innocent or help escape a murderer.
8. Google indexes websites by their webbots (crawlers). But now a filtered Indexing has to be done. So now thousands of daily complaints by webmasters will come, why their websites was not crawled.
9. Facebook has to re-invent ways to check status updates. Monitoring (manual efforts and decision making also reuired here) will make your status updates taking time to come.
10. DNS manipulations and proxy servers are very common these days and known to almost every informed internet user
11. Audio visual contents and text in images are still not possible to handle.
12. Any Language translations API is also not 100% successful till date
13. Bla bla bla
14. Bla bla bla
Seriously, do I need to reason out by logic? You all are better judges. Lets us all see what turn this Internet censorship would take.

Just to add a few comments -

a) In November 2007, "Father of the Internet" Vint Cerf stated that he sees government control of the Internet failing because the Web is almost entirely privately owned.

b) Time Magazine has quoted a big Computer scientist saying "The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it."

And also a completely contradicting view to my post -
A 2011 report by researchers at the Oxford Internet Institute published by UNESCO concludes "... the control of information on the Internet and Web is certainly feasible, and technological advances do not therefore guarantee greater freedom of speech."

So, it is up to readers to decide how much optimistic should we be in terms of the feasibility and viability of a solution to offensive content removal. Keyword based filtering, firewall filtering, ISP controls, php/aspx solutions at real time websites etc won't help. Think of some another way. DNS manipulations, proxies, content in audio-video and images should also be kept in mind

Consider the vast amount of data already on servers of these big companies and enormous amount of content being generated every second. Remember well that -

Before ending I would like my readers to know what Wikipedia has in its store regarding this. It says - Internet censorship is the control or suppression of the publishing of, or access to information on the Internet. It may be carried out by governments or by private organizations either at the behest of government or on their own initiative. Individuals and organizations may engage in self-censorship on their own or due to intimidation and fear.

Is Google making an “Anti-iPad”- Google-Apple rivalry leading to new Android device by Google.

There has been a news circulating in the industry that Google is working on a device to compete with Apple's iPad. And now even according to the New York Times, "Eric Schmidt, the chief executive of Google, told friends at a recent party (obviously informal party) in LA about the new device. This, still an elusive device (with unknown birth time and unknown pregnancy status), would exclusively be running on the Android operating system." Google is the standard-bearer in the world of Web standards, also owner of busiest and biggest search engine, holds control over majority of blogs around the world, and gives platforms and APIs in which programmers should be able to run nearly any software on almost any computing device. So, entry of Google with this device would be very very exciting for us, the users; And very very dangerous for rival companies. So, should we expect an exciting and marvelous child-birth (sorry device-birth ;) ) from Google?

Some other sources stated that Google has been experimenting in protected-secret-and-low-hyped mode with a few content publishers to explore the possibility of delivering ebooks, emagazines and other content on a tablet. Some of my friends also told that it might also try to bag Kindle project too from Amazon, partially, even if it is not fully.

Cumon, it true that there is no proof of this deal. Just one of the gossips circulating from Silicon Valley. But we have seen such gossips turning into reality many many times.

This new device, after ipad2, Galaxy S2, and Nexus devices, would take Google to the next level of Tablet market and thus creating a totally new “Anti iPad device”. Because who the hell will then care for iPad when it comes with heay price tag, selling problems (see Apple showroom got shutdown and stones pelted reports), Anti-flsh system (God knows why Flash is considered ‘heavy’ for Apple devices, and limited accessibility.

Google chrome wrong message for network diagnostic

If your internet connection is not available or lost, and you try to open some website over the internet using Google Chrome, you get an Error. Absolutely, there is no problem untill now. But Google advises you a method to verify and check the problem. Now if that resolution is wrong, there is a problem. And if the wrong resolution is given by Google, it is a big problem.

Google says to go to %windir%, which simply means the windows installation folder. On my system it comes out to be C:\windows
After this it says, to launch network diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe. Now there is no file as such at said location.

Actually there are two problems:

1) If you type what is advised by google on the Start->Run.
%windir%/network diagnostic\xpnetdiag.exe
Then there is a error saying, there is no folder c:\windows/network. Actually the path should be in double quotes. The people proficient in computer systems and troubleshooting would even know this beforehand. But I dont know why Google believes that even general people would know of this.

2) On my system, XP SP3, there was no folder named network diagnostic at all in C:\windows. So that means even if I used double quotes in the path, I got know resolution.

My personal gut feeling is that, Google sould not advise those methods which are not generic. Also, the advises should be easy to understand by the common masses. I guess, my voice being heard.

inurl search fails on Google - Is it not a Google hack or failure

Hi
Earlier you must have used inurl: searches in Google Search Engine.
But today i found out that it fails.

I looked for query : inurl:adobe
And nothing comes up.

Then i searched for inudl:adobe and several results come up.
I am also advised to search for inurl:adobe instead.

But again on clicking the Link the Google Search Engine stopped responding.



I rechecked this many times today.

Someone from Google, have a look!!
1) Please advertise if the support has ended
2) In any case the search engine should not get confused and must not hang.

It is often said that you must not forget your enemies however small it may seem.One such scenario came when one of my close acquaintance Mr Sandeep wanted to show PDF docs on his website. Now you may say what makes it a big deal to devote a blog post for this?
However the problem was that my friend wanted to show his PDF links even if Adobe Reader was not installed on his client machine. True that this situation is rare , but what is to be done if as a consultant you are posed such questions. Let's all see how the problem has to be tackled.

There are two important points regarding the problem:

1) The AdobeReader not installed on the machine is very rare situation. It is a free tool easily downloadable and installable from Adobe website. It has penetration of 99.9% worlds computer . That is 99.9% computers using Internet have this already installed. All computer manufacturers give this preloaded and free. So even if your client is having problem of not having this you can ask him to install it without any business, reputational, or efficacy loss.

2) Now a dayz many browsers also have inbuilt AdobeReader. Since adobe does not charge other companies from using this. So new browsers have this automatic pluging. Eg in Google Chrome, Internet Explorer 10, Mozilla Firefox. Browsers which dont have this, for them plugins come. So in any case if your client is not able to view PDF, it is not even slightest of your problem to worry. You can also give a link to download Adobe reader, free of cost, Since Adobe has free distribution as well as redistribution policy. Or in best case show them downloadable link from Adobe website itself.


In all other cases if you are too vigorous for perfection (which i wud really say too! coz even if u miss that , its not a big deal). Then in that case I give you the easiest, trickiest, and free to use idea.
This idea uses Google docs.

Suppose you have a PDF doc -->abc.pdf
It is stored at any location on your server-->www.meonshow.com/abc.pdf
Then use the following Link to open that
http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.meonshow.com/abc.pdf

Rest can be tested urself. You can modify the parts of pages that has to be shown. A simple HTML editing and rendering the page in Frame or I-Frame.

Other ideas can be to search the enormous web and to use some quality free tools for the purpose. Or pdf to SWF converters or make some customized Flex/Flash Application that can do that job properly. Search madxperts or codebox website. They have this I guess.

How Google Search Suggest or "did you mean" Algorithm works

According to Douglas M., former CTO of Google , the logic behind suggestions is as follows:

1) Anyone writes a ( misspelled ) word in google

2) If the person does not find what he/she wanted then he/she does not click on any results that came.

3) He/she realizes that there was a typo error. So a rewrite of the word in the search box happens by him/her. That is he/she enters the correct word.

4) He/she finds what they want. They proceed by clicking on any of the result.

This is where the catch is. This pattern multiplied millions of times, by zillions of users, show what are the most common misspells and what are the most "common" corrections. So based on this Goggle corrects the searched query (rather suggests a correct query).
